The learning theater in the rear of the convention center played host to the conference program, which included technical sessions and product demonstrations. Kara Alexzander, DACM, CNC, LAc., kicked off the thought-provoking program with “Health & Wellness: How Lighting Influences Well-Being.” Exploring the intricate relationship between lighting, the senses and the brain, Dr. Alexzander discussed how to create environments that optimize human well-being, productivity and even hormone balancing. Also, Michael Scalzo, the executive director of NLCAA-CET, and Lawrence O. Lamontagne with Crestron Electronics hosted a panel discussion about California’s Title 24, Part 6, and discussed common pitfalls in design, installation, testing and inspection. They concluded with tips for ensuring compliance while minimizing project disruptions. On Thursday, Angela Pilant of Evergreen Consulting Group explained how luminaire-level lighting controls can be used in new and retrofit projects to enable real-time monitoring of zonal temperatures, ventilation levels and occupancy rates for a truly smart lighting experience.

In addition to the live sessions, preregistered attendees of LightSPEC West have exclusive early access to an online technical session on the show's website. “Lighting Specification and Procurement in the Age of AI,” an online presentation by Forest Flager of Parspec, explores the roles AI may play in streamlining the lighting specification workflows and how it may change the role of lighting practitioners.

“LightSPEC West is a regional gem. The opportunity to interface with the manufacturers in addition to the educational offerings makes for a productive day,” said Michelle Kelman, a 2024 attendee.

Attendees and exhibitors surveyed noted that the onsite traffic provided a unique opportunity for attendees and exhibitors to have increased visibility, stronger community building, and the ability to communicate over a longer period.
