Examining lighting’s role in health and wellness

March 11, 2024
Educational sessions at LightSPEC West focus on trending topics such as optimizing architecture and design to improve human well-being and productivity.

Educational sessions at LightSPEC West present added-value opportunities for attendees, with subject-matter experts leading CEU-credited courses from a learning theater adjacent to the exhibition. LightSPEC West, to be held April 17-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will also feature Southern California agencies and national lighting manufacturers displaying their latest architectural lighting offerings.

Among the courses scheduled is “Health & Wellness: How Lighting Influences Well-Being,” a one-hour session presented by Kara Alexzander, DACM, CNC, LAc.

“Lighting is not just about what we see; it's about how we feel, think, and function. It has the power to shape our well-being and productivity through its profound influence on our body's autonomic functions,” Alexzander said. “Understanding this intricate relationship between lighting, our senses, and brain response can lead us to create environments that optimize human well-being, productivity, and even hormone balancing.”

Alexzander, who handles specification sales on the West Coast for Elemental LED Inc., will delve into the significance of color temperature, TM-30 evaluation, lumen output, and color rendering in shaping our experiences with lighting.

Nearly six weeks before LightSPEC West, the Southern California lighting event, more than 1,100 influential buyers engaged in the architectural solid-state lighting market have already registered to attend.

LightSPEC West is a unique in-person event for anyone involved in the design, production, distribution, specification and application of solid-state lighting products and systems, for indoor and outdoor environments, in commercial, institutional and residential building types. Sponsoring agencies include Light, a 2024 premier lighting agency, and Forman & Associates.
