A maker of gaming gear echoed its industry in its office redesign. The glossy surfaces, glass doors and walls, and polished concrete floors could have resulted in noise and echo in the lobby. Incorporating custom, acoustic sound-absorption panels and LED lighting created a design that evokes a modern, tech-focused aesthetic and reinforces the PC components and peripherals maker’s branding.
PC-builder Corsair teamed with David Fenster, AIA LEED AP and founder of Modulus, San Jose, Calif., to transform the traditional office lobby to a tech-inspired space. Fenster reenvisioned the space and created a DIMM-shaped ceiling-mounted sculpture of LED lights and custom linear baffles. The lighting was designed in concert with the overall project, which also included engineers from Pinta Acoustic and West General, Pinta Acoustic’s California distributor.
The shape of dual in-line memory modules was achieved using 117 custom linear baffles manufactured by Pinta Acoustic. The 2” wide baffles were mounted to the ceiling via adhesive and C-channels, and the LEDs were installed between the baffles.
The color-changeable LED lights reflect off the baffles and create a lobby ambiance. “Installation required comprehensive preplanning and coordination with the electrician installing the LED lighting,” said Rudy Vargas, project manager at acoustical subcontractor Ad-In.
