Erwin Redl
The Art of SSL
Erwin Redl is an artist who has applied LEDs in commissioned displays for more than a decade. His use of color, grids and patterns, and the ambient washes of light generated by the sources creating the points in space are mesmerizing.
Unlike practical architectural lighting, which seeks to define surfaces and space based on physical objects, many of Redl's installations use points of light to define both space and to create a fabric from light, and surfaces from implication, rather than obstruction. You are both looking at, and through the work, while being washed with the combined flux generated.
The application of LEDs in this level of artistic expression generates imagery that is easily applied in architectural environments, either to enhance or to redefine the architectural environment.
